FAMILY TREE ADOPTION PROGRAM (FTAP)

The Family Tree Adoption Program® (FTAP) is a grassroots program that will provide free native trees or shrubs to private homeowners in Prince George’s (PG) County, Maryland. The program will help green our communities by increasing tree canopy, which, in turn, will improve air and water quality, community aesthetics, and provide benefits for years to come.

Residents from across communities in PG County will voluntarily adopt native trees of their choice, obtain free support from tree experts on how to plant and care for these trees in their private yards. Residents will take 100% ownership of these trees/shrubberies forever.

The goal of the FTAP is to increase the number of private homeowners in our communities who plant native trees and shrubs on their yards. Through outreach and education programs organized at venues in different communities in the County, homeowners will learn to care for their adopted trees/shrubs. To that end FFTAP provides ongoing free resources, such as mulches, watering bags, kits, and tips, for new and existing tree owners on how to best take care of the trees/shrubs in their yards.

What are the Benefits?
